Iberia's Barbados |
|
Our dear Grand Champion
Iberia’s Barbados caught the attention of many judges and exhibitors alike during his long show career: massive head,
lots of heavy bone and plenty of Flemish type. Barbados has had a very successful show career with major wins at very
competitive Flemish shows, and in December of 2012 joined the breeding program
of a young Flemish enthusiast in MA.
Iberia's Bonaire |
|
Bonaire had an impressive placing (3rd) in a crowded class of 13 at Cortland in
September of 2009, but the next day he looked even better and finished 1st in his class and went on to win Best Opposite Black.
Bonaire has retired from showing and breeding and now rests comfortably in a pet home in Central Massachussetts.
Iberia's Burundi |
|
Our stud buck and Grand Champion Iberia’s
Burundi left for a new home in February 2013 and after spending some time in the Mid Atlantic states, his progeny
will likely join us this year. I look for type and color in my Flemish, and when they have those traits along with fur and
bone I know I have a keeper…since he was a junior I knew this buck was going to be a major element in my breeding program.
And to prove it, he took the title of Best Opposite Black at the Eastern States Spring Shows in 2012, and Best Opposite Black
at the 2012 Eastern States Specialty Show (as well as the Open Show) in Spencer, MA.
Iberia's Becky |
|
April 25, 2006 - December 29, 2013 |
This is Iberia's Becky, my
first Grand Champion Black doe. She was 1st senior doe out of 13 does in her class at the National Flemish
Giant show in Cortland, NY in April 2007. This doe started her winning career early and picked up her first Grand
Champion leg as a junior. As you can tell by reading about my animals, the influence of this noble animal is everywhere.
In September of 2011 Becky came out of “retirement” and earned a respectable 3rd
place in the Senior Doe class at the Cortland Classic. After a long and productive life, one of our favorites and best rabbits
ever passed away at the ripe age of 7 years, 8 months and 4 days.
Iberia's Balalaika |
|
Balalaika is a fine doe out of Grand Champion Iberia's Becky. She carries the type, color and fur typical of Becky's offspring. She started winning as a junior
with two BOV wins and went on to win BOV at her first show as a 6/8, thus earning her Grand Champion title before she was
a senior. And did I mention that Balalaika’s BOV wins took place at the
prestigious Cortland, NY and Storrs, CT shows? She is no longer with us but her legacy lives on.
Iberia's Bayou |
|
Bayou is a very promising
doe out of Grand Champion Iberia's Bali and Grand Champion Iberia's Barbados. She reminds me of another black doe whose
winning career started very early, her half sister and Grand Champion Iberia's Balalaika…it must run in the family.
Bayou was Best Black at the ESFGRBA Specialty Show in Spencer, MA in May 2010.
Iberia’s
Bayou rested from the show tables in 2011 but gave us a double gift-her daughter Bolivia and son Burundi. In 2013 Bayou joined a breeding program in
Michigan.
Iberia's Bosnia |
|
After a few enjoyable years and a legacy of great animals, Iberia’s
Bosnia passed away in October of 2012. Her daughter Bogotá led black Flemish programs in Central MA and NY and
son Bonodís did the same in Maryland. Her grandson Burkina Faso is one of our Black herd bucks.
Iberia's Bolivia |
|
Grand
Champion Iberia’s Bolivia started out her show career by winning 1st junior doe at Cortland in the fall of
2011-not a bad debut at all. And then she took Best Black-twice-at the prestigious Eastern States Spring Shows in Cortland,
NY in 2012. Her accomplishments in 2012 notwithstanding, Bolivia was BOV at the Cortland show in April of 2013, Best of Variety
at the National Flemish Show (also in April of 2013) and BOSV in Cortland in September of 2013.
Iberias Veinte Años |
|
Iberia’s Veinte Años has everything going for her: size, type, color and fur. And in case you were wondering how she got it all, let’s look at her pedigree:
Mom is Grand Champion Iberia’s Balalaika and Dad is Elizbar’s Lisimba, grandson of our Grand Champion Barbados.
Iberia's
Bonito was the black buck that started it all. Although no longer with us, Bonito's legacy is present in our rabbitry.
Bonito was Best 6-8 buck at the ESFGRBA Cortland Classic 20th Anniversary show in 2003 and 1st Senior
Buck at the 2004 ARBA Convention in Providence, RI.
Iberia's Boston was another Grand Champion and son of Becky.
Boston did very well as a show and herd buck, leading a breeding program in Maryland. His son Barbados also had a legendary
show career breeding program.
